Zaandam City Hall, a high-profile building in the Amsterdam Region

Zaanstad has a new and high-profile City Hall. Close to the capital city of the Netherlands, Amsterdam, it has good public transport links and is easily accessible by foot, bicycle and automobile. The new-build is located on the site of the current bus station, immediately adjacent to Zaandam station.

The new City Hall consists of a series of ‘houses’: a series of freestanding buildings. They reflect in a number of ways the Zaandam styles of building, such as the characteristic Dutch building style of the Zaanse Schans. These unusual Dutch offices are also characterized by their use of materials and color. The main entrance, with the public functions, is located on the new Stadhuisplein.

The City Hall is an open and welcoming place for residents, the council and the municipal executive to meet. For the municipal organization the new City Hall also offers a much improved office environment. Previously the organization worked out of several locations in Zaanstad.

The total area is 25,500 m², of which 21,500 m² is intended for around 960 workstations. The City Hall has a 2,000 m² assembly center and a new municipal archive which extends to 1,650 m². A new bus station has been sited under the City Hall.
