Schiphol Real Estate B.V. has been working for some time on a plan to build new five-star Hilton hotel accommodation with extensive congress facilities. This development will be undertaken at the site of the current Hilton Hotel at Schiphol Airport in the Amsterdam region. The current traverse of the WTC shall be extended to the lobby of the newly built center. A 2-story underground parking garage will be developed under the entire plot.
The new Hilton Hotel at Schiphol Airport will have 433 rooms, 23 conference rooms, a specialty restaurant and bar, executive lounge, spa and fitness center, a large atrium with lobby and an underground parking garage with 138 parking lots. This will make it one of the largest hotels in the Netherlands. A covered promenade will link the hotel directly with the terminal of the international airport.
The new Hilton will be located along the access route to the terminal, opposite the current Hilton Hotel which will remain in use until the new hotel is completed. The cube-shaped building, which has been designed by Architectenbureau Mecanoo will have rounded corners and diamond-shaped window sets and diagonal lines. The large atrium, with a 35-meter high glass ceiling, forms the heart of the hotel and conference center. The light, horizontal lines of the balustrades and the white elements reflect the daylight deep into the building and give it its grandeur. According to the architects the timber strips, frames and elements will provide refinement and a natural, decorative design. The 2-story parking garage, which has been designed to provide around 700 parking lots, is linked underground to the existing parking garages of the WTC. In addition, the possibility of expanding the parking garage to provide up to 1,050 parking lots by means of an extra parking level is being explored.
